Max Monroe has taken inspiration from the classic story of Alice in Wonderland and has given us a dark edged, twisted fairy tale in Alex In Wonderland. Our leads are the titular Alex, who's life has seemingly hit a brick wall and is going nowhere fast when by chance she comes across Matt Hadder, the head of Wonderland Inc., purveyors of all things hedonistic to those that can afford the price.... and down the rabbit hole we go!
Matt's initial interest in Alex is certainly less than honorable but as Alex becomes ensnared by the magic of Wonderland, Matt becomes hooked on the gorgeous feisty Alex who proves more than a match to the goings on around her.
Alex in Wonderland is a cleverly written, fast paced book as you would expect from this writing duo and I am looking forward to reading more of the twisted fairy tales as they are rolled out... I just hope that if Cal gets a story of his own, that Alex and Matt feature as I would like to hear more of what this pair are up to!

I struggled a bit with whether this was likely to happen in real life (I mean in reality I am not sure the billionaire love stories would happen either but I know so little about this 'world's that I have no clue) but once I got over that I enjoyed it and was keen to find out what happened. However, why this got 4 and not 5 stars was just that I missed the humour that I love from Max Monroe

4 stars!!!
“Hell, maybe we’re all mad here.”
Alex in Wonderland is Max Monroe’s up to date interpretation of our dear Alice, who found the ultimate fairy tale after following her rabbit. I chased my own rabbit from the first to last page of this read as Max Monroe kept me captivated from first to last page. Gone are the Mad Hatters and tea parties, in are a mafia type corporation, orgies and lots of drugs. Some might argue that Alice could have been high, but our Alex was certainly not.
Max Monroe had already warned us that this was a dark romance, a twisted fairy tale and they certainly delivered. Definitely not their norm and set in a world where I found myself at home. I love reading about the edgier, darker and grittier walks of life and I seriously loved this one.
“I thought I knew Wonderland,” I told her tenderly as I collapsed on top of her. “But it turns out I can be wrong because I was just eight effing inches deep inside it.”
Alex was a woman that had moved away from her Aunt trying to find her place in the world, with a crappy apartment and a crappy job she finds herself propositioned at a time when she most needed it. Alex was a woman that surprised me, she was incredibly brave, maybe a little naïve in the first instance, but she soon finds her feet. Her curious nature makes her incredibly strong or maybe a little stupid but none the less she thrives in the new situation she finds herself in.
Matt Hadder was a man you should be scared of and yet I wasn’t. I feel if we had been privy to how he got where he was today he may have taken a little longer to warm up to, but being thrown into the helpful, yet intimidating Matt Hadder, it only made him intriguing and yet extremely loveable. At no point in time did I forget what this man was capable of, but the way he treated Alex redeemed him on many levels.
“I thought for sure you were an immaculate conception born of the devil himself.”
This book will make you question your morals as the true nature of Wonderland Inc comes to life and how and what they do to achieve their goals. The problem is, the more I read, the more convinced I became that there are actually companies like this that exist. Politics and money go hand in hand as do ego’s and success, just depends what you are willing to do or give up to get there. This book does question your morals and that of others, but for fiction, it made for some very entertaining reading.
“Special… Enough to taunt me. Enough to tease me. Enough to lure me in a way nothing has for forty years.”
For a man that had never fallen in love, had never even looked a relationship in the face, Matt falls hard. It was great to read about how the love of a woman can change a person. Matt and his company would never be changed, if anything it was Alex that did the changing, but on an emotional level Matt evolved and all for the better.
“Ah. But doesn’t it feel good to be bad sometimes, little one?”
Yes, this was a dark read, not the darkest I have read, but at least a decent grey. The plot moved at a fast pace and it was this pacing that made this but unputdownable. From first to last page I was swept away with Alex and Matt’s story, and while at times it was a little predictable the execution was fantastic. I cannot wait to read more from this series.
